The Congress Party is likely to suspend five Congress legislators who recently joined the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), which is backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On Friday, the President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Vincent Pala, announced the move.

All five MLAs will be served with show-cause notices, according to Pala, and will most likely be suspended. He also stated that the remaining 55 constituencies cannot be lost for the sake of the five MLAs.

It is noteworthy that the remaining five Congress legislators in the northeastern state have joined the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), which is backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) (BJP). This unexpected turn of events has dealt the Congress party a major setback just months before the Meghalaya Assembly elections in 2023.

Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh, PT Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem, Kimfa Marbaniang, and Mohendro Rapsang are the remaining five legislators. In the meantime, they met with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and presented him with a letter of support.
