Meghalaya: 6 dead and dozen injured as bus falls into Ringdi river

Six (6) people are dead, and over a dozen have sustained injuries in a tragic accident that occurred on 30th October in Meghalaya.

A Meghalaya State Transport Corporation bus fell into the Ringdi river in the East Garo Hills district.

The bus was carrying at least 21 passengers.

The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Nongchram, Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district while it was on its way from Tura to Shillong via Williamnagar Nongstoin.

The people who are injured during the incident have been admitted to at hospitals in Williamnagar and Tura.

Moreover, when the accident took place, the bus was traveling at a very high speed.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of Meghalaya has conveyed his sorrow over the deaths of the 6 people involved in the tragedy.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Twitter: “Pained by the unfortunate MTC bus accident at Nongchram Bridge that claimed precious lives. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and I wish a speedy recovery to those injured.”

Moreover, Meghalaya minister James Sangma said he is personally monitoring the treatment of the injured passengers.

He said, “In relation to the MTC bus accident at Nongchram Bridge, I’m personally following up on the injured & treatment provided to them. Doctors & healthcare staff are providing the best treatment needed. If anyone has leads of others who might need help, feel free to apprise me,”
