Meghalaya : AMMSU demand for development of plain belt area

Over issues faced by the people of the area, a list of demands for the plain belt area was submitted to the Power Minister, James PK Sangma, by The All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) on November 1.
The NGO requested exclusion of electricity bills for farmers working on irrigated paddy fields because of floods and ongoing Pandemic.
AMMSU president, Nur Islam said,“Their economic condition is extremely bad and they will need all the help they can get because of the situation with COVID and floods.”
The NGO seeks inauguration of the new local hospital that was upgraded from a PHC to a CHC.
For quicker development for the people of the area, AMMSU asked for a C&RD Block to be set up at Kashiabari.
An embankment was also sought by the NGO on the Brahmaputra to protect the people from floods every year.
In other demands the NGO included construction of pucca flood embankment from Rajpur to Konarchar, provision of infrastructure and facilities to flood-affected schools, Agriculture Development Office sanction request, setting up Fire Brigade Station at Hallidayganj and Anganwadi centers in all villages.
