Senior Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh said that careful candidate selection has to be done for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), democratically.
She said, “We need to ensure that the candidates are selected democratically because the choice of candidates and issues will be important for the performance of our party in the GHADC polls”.
The upcoming GHADC polls would check the survival of the Opposition. Lyngdoh asked the party members to hold the grassroots support.
“If our grassroots support dwindles, we will have a lot of problems in 2023,” she warned while praying that the claims of corruption in GHADC provide evidence to a large extent that would affect the choice of the voters.
The National People’s Party(NPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) have also started their GHADC poll preparation to be held on April 9.
It has been alleged that there is a large-scale corruption in GHADC and the council have not cleared the salaries of its employees for more than 30 months.
