Meghalaya: CM Conrad Sangma yet to accept Home Minister Rymbui Lahkmen’s resignation

Lakhmen Rymbui, Meghalaya’s home minister, who resigned earlier this month, claims that chief minister Conrad Sangma has failed to accept his resignation. “I will continue to look after the home department until my resignation is accepted by the chief minister,” Lahkmen Rymbui said.

Following the murder of HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew on August 13, Lahkmen Rymbui stepped down as Meghalaya’s home minister, sparking unrest in Shillong and surrounding regions. Lahkmen Rymbui is also the minister of education of Meghalaya, in addition to the home department.

Meanwhile, Rymbui chastised the Congress for accusing the UDP of “misusing the home department” to illegally collect taxes. He said that newly-elected Meghalaya Congress president Vincent Pala is making such charges out of “frustration.”
