The National Green Tribunal (NGT)-appointed committee headed by Justice BD Agarwal has decided to provide a compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs to the families of six miners who died inside a coal mine in Meghalaya.

On January 21, six persons died inside a mine after a crane carrying them broke in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district.

The police have been directed by the committee to carry out an investigation and take action against the workers, manager of the mine and the owner of the land and the mine.
