Meghalaya : Dohling seeks settlement of border issues

Anxious about the existing state of affair along Assam-Meghalaya border, C&RD Minister, Hamletson Dohling, has fervently asked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to engage with Assam about resolving the issues faced by people living near border area of Block II.

During Dohling’s last visit to Jatalong, the locals interrogated with him about their painful experience and domineering from the neighbouring state.

According to Dohling’s claim, taxes are frequently levied on agricultural goods by the Assam Forest department and that the villagers of these areas are not allowed to collect firewood for their household necessities.

In other allegations by the Minister, a school building at Khlieh Umwang was destroyed in 2018.

Stating that no ASHAs are there to implement government schemes in these villages, Dohling said, “They also highlighted that sanctioned infrastructure development works could not be carried out in the area due to stiff opposition from Assam”.
