Meghalaya : First session of GHADC on April 19

The first session for the formation of the new Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has been called by Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik.

Oath taking of the newly-elected members will also take place during the session.

The District Council Affairs department on Saturday issued a notification which stated that the Meghalaya Governor has authoritatively called the first session for oath-taking of newly-elected members in the district council hall of the GHADC at 11 am on April 19.

The election for the chairman of the GHADC has been fixed on April 21 by the Meghalaya Governor. The election will be conducted at 11am as per notification.

Ram Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills district, will be in charge over both the sessions of the Council for performing the oath to the newly-elected members and for holding the election to the office of chairman of the GHADC. The GHADC has 29 elected members, and the Governor will nominate one member later.

NPP MLA/MDC Benedict Marak as been selected as the candidate for the post of CEM, by the NPP-led Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC) who would also face an election in the House. GNC member Nikman Marak has been selected as the deputy CEM.

Rakesh A Sangma has been chosen by the GHDC as the candidate for the post of chairman, who would be elected via election officially.
