The North East Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd. (NEHHDC) and the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for academic partnership and exchange.
The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) is an organization that aims to develop and promote the region’s indigenous crafts by connecting craftsmen with potential markets and consumers, as well as providing economic, cultural, and social opportunities for creators while adding cultural value for consumers.
Moreover, The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) was incorporated in 1977.
The Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India, is in charge of the corporation’s administration.
It offers a range of products from all the eight North-Eastern states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
Brigadier Rajiv Kumar Singh (Retd. ), Managing Director of NEHHDC, and Prof. GD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of USTM, both representing their respective schools, have signed the agreement.
Prof. GD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of USTM, remarked that the university has signed the MoU in order to disseminate knowledge for the mutual benefit of USTM and the North East Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd.
The arrangement, according to Brigadier Rajiv Kumar Singh, Managing Director of NEHHDC, will encourage traditional wisdom among the youth.
Moreover, this will be accomplished through collaborative conferences, seminars, trade events, and exhibitions.
However, Both schools will endeavor to promote academic collaboration and exchange, as well as develop joint research projects, according to the agreement.
Apart from other extension initiatives, the agreement stipulates that resource persons and research personnel will be exchanged.
