Meghalaya : Rs 19 lakhs for two Cabinet meetings

An amount of Rs 19 lakhs has been spent by the Meghalaya Government in holding two State Cabinet meetings at Tura and Jowai under the ‘Cabinet on the Move’ programme.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in his reply to a question asked by Congress MLA, Zenith Sangma about the status of the programme said that it has been temporarily suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The amount spent so far for holding the two meetings was said to be Rs. 19,18,221. Sangma said, to bring the administration closer to the people the programme was scheduled.

Chief Minister added, “We cannot make all decisions sitting in Shillong as there are specific issues and with this programme, we are able to connect in a better way with people”.

The Opposition MLA, Zenith Sangma opposed by asking that when people aren’t allowed to see the meeting how holding meetings in different districts would connect with people.

Zenith Sangma said,” It is just a wastage of public money”.
