Meghalaya : Tribute to former President and State Leaders

During the first autumn session, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly showed their gratitude towards former President Pranab Mukherjee and late state leaders namely Hispreaching Son Shylla and Simon Siangshai, on Thursday.
Thirty-nine political leaders including
Former union ministers Ram Vilas Paswan, Jaswant Singh and first Chattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Pramod Kumar Jogi, along with thirty-nine other political leaders passed away in the past few months.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma specially mentioned Late Pranab Mukherjee in his statement that Mukherjee worked very hard with the subjects he handled.
Sangman said,”He was a great personality”.
Sangma said that Shylla was a person with extraordinary oratory skills.
Siangshai was a leader who had a strong connection with the people at the grassroots level, said Sangma.
Former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma, termed Shylla and Siangshai as the two great sons of the soil – loved and respected by the people.
Sangma during his days in the Indian National Congress recalled about his special bonding with Mukherjee and said that he was a leader who was always ready to give guidance when needed.
The deaths of Shylla and Siangshai are a great loss for the people of the State, said Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
“We have also lost a great leader like Mukherjee, who had managed to occupy the highest position in the country by becoming the President,” he said.
P.T. Sawkmie, Zenith M Sangma, George B Lyngdoh and Mayralborn Syiem along with Adelbert Nongrum and Independent MLA Lambor Malngiang was also present in the obituary reference.
