In a unanimous decision, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has elected Thomas A Sangma as the Vice-Chairman of the CPA India Region Zone III. Sangma will hold this esteemed position for a six-month tenure.
The announcement was made following the executive committee meeting of Zone III at a prominent city hotel.
During the conference, Sangma emphasized the CPA India Region Zone III’s mission to foster awareness of constitutional, legislative, economic, social, and cultural aspects of parliamentary democracy. He particularly highlighted its focus on the eight North Eastern states, which function as sub-branches of the main CPA India Region Branch, Lok Sabha.
To show respect for the religious sentiments of the people, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma assured that the CPA proceedings would commence only after the conclusion of church services on Sundays. Responding to concerns regarding the choice of Sunday for the event, he explained that the scheduling was limited due to ongoing parliamentary sessions, and the only available time for Lok Sabha Speaker’s attendance was on the weekend.
In light of this, the CPA has taken care to ensure that the programs are aligned with the conclusion of the church services. Participants are encouraged to attend the service, and the CPA activities will commence towards the afternoon, post the religious observances.
The two-day CPA event was inaugurated on Saturday by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
