Police arrests 3 people with huge quantity of explosives

Meghalaya police discovered a large number of explosives in a vehicle and arrested three people in connection with the incident near the Assam-Meghalaya border in the Ri-Bhoi district on Thursday.

According to an official, the Ri-Bhoi district police and the Assam Rifles set up a Naka checkpoint in the Byrnihat area along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Thursday night based on specific information and intercepted a vehicle with the registration number AS-01BE-3800.

During the search operation, security personnel supposedly seized nine Neo Gel (Gelatin Sticks) cartoons weighing around 209.93 kg, 50 Aluminum Instantaneous Electric Detonators, and 2000 Indira Special Ordinary Detonators from the vehicle.

The explosives were illegally brought from Khliehriat, the district headquarters of East Jaintia Hills. “We are interrogating the arrested persons to find out the actual purpose of illegal transportation of the explosives”.

Moreover, the occupants of the vehicle failed to produce any documents proving the consignment’s legality.

Furthermore, they were detained after further investigation revealed that they were involved in illegal activities.

However, the Explosives Substances Act’s section 5(A) was used by the Nongpoh Police Department to file a case.

It was suspected that the consignment was taken to be used in stone quarries.
