Yaba tablets worth Rs 5 lakhs seized in SWKH

According to the Border Security Force (BSF), a person from the South West Khasi Hills district was arrested with a consignment of Yaba tablets worth Rs 5 lakhs by the Meghalaya Police and a BSF team.

The consignment was seized as the apprehended person and his accomplice approached the border area with the intention of smuggling it to Bangladesh.

According to the BSF, the person was apprehended based on specific information.

A joint team of BSF personnel and state police officers apprehended the person on Sunday after receiving a tip and recovered 982 Yaba tablets from his possession.

“The consignment was confiscated while the apprehended person with his accomplice came to the border area with a purpose to smuggle it to Bangladesh”, the statement by the BSF said.

Accordingly, drug peddlers usually smuggled banned cough syrup and Yaba tablets from Myanmar and supplied them to Bangladesh, where there is a high demand for these items.

However, Amphetamines or party drugs are other names for Yaba tablets.

Moreover, according to the report, one of the two accused was able to flee the scene.

While the person, along with the suspected contrabands, was apprehended and handed over to state police, two others managed to flee, according to the BSF.
