Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 2 crore seized in Mizoram

An official said on Saturday that the Mizoram excise and narcotics department and the Border Security Force (BSF) seized over 12 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine tablets worth around Rs 2 crores near the Assam border on Friday.

According to the official, two people have been arrested in connection with the seizure.

On Friday evening, excise and narcotics department officials and BSF jawans conducted a joint operation on the outskirts of North Chhimluang village on the National Highway-306 in Kolasib district in northern Mizoram bordering Assam, acting on a tip, and recovered 12.8 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine tablets from the possession of the two peddlers, he said.

He identified the two suspects as Shamir Deb (49), a resident of Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district, and Solomon Zonunmawia (35) of Myanmar’s Khawmawi village.

He claimed that the contraband drugs, worth around Rs 2 crore, were smuggled out of Myanmar and sold outside of Mizoram.

He added that the two defendants were charged under relevant sections of the Narcotics, Drugs, and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
