Mizoram : 20 years imprisonment in “rarest of rare” case

For causing death of five members of a family in 2015 for the reason that the person refused to buy products from the accused, Mizoram district court sentenced the accused 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on Monday under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which will be followed by life imprisonment.

The family was residing in Republic Veng area.

The case was termed as “rarest of rare”. The 43-year-old convict had cut the victim several times after stabbing him with a sharp object, said Aizawl district additional district and sessions judge of Aizawl district court H T C Lalrinchhana.

The murderer will undergo 20 years rigorous imprisonment for trespassing (section 449 of IPC) and attempt to murder (section 307 of IPC) before he is commenced of life imprisonment, the court said.

Failure of payment of Rs 4 lakhs as fine for the offenses committed under Section 449 and Section 307 of the IPC will add four more years of rigorous imprisonment.

Another 10 years life imprisonment will be added to the list if he fails to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh each for the five murder cases, the court said.

The convict, who was a carpenter and butcher by profession and a resident of the same locality, had barged into the house of Sangliansiama on January 9, 2015, and

The convict stabbed the members of the family after the head of the family rejected to purchase company products from him. He was a carpenter and butcher by profession from the same locality.

The deceased family included Sangliansiama, his wife Khualthangi who was the chief manager of a nationalized bank, their five-year-old son, grandson and Sangliansiama’s sister.
