Elections to the 19-member Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) will be held on February 16, announced Mizoram State Election Commission.

274 polling stations will witness AMC elections poll form 7am to 4pm, said Mizoram State Election Commissioner Laima Chozah.

Use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be done in the polls to the AMC, said Laima.

On February 18, the AMC poll results will be declared.

Model Code of Conduct has come into force after the election dates were announced.

January 28 is the last date for filing nomination papers for the AMC polls February 1 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature. On January 29, scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done. For re-poll, February 17 has been selected by the State Election Commission based on requirements.

Mizoram State Election Commissioner Laima Chozah informed, “There are a total of 2,18,870 electorates, including 1,17,191 female voters within the AMC area”.

“As Mizoram registered a significant decline in COVID-19 cases and moreover vaccination drive is being carried out across the state, we have consulted the State Government and finally decided to hold the polls,” Chozah added.
