Mizoram : Arrest of KMSS picketers for blocking goods train

For blocking movement of a goods train to Mizoram at Muhammadpur railway station, 21 picketers of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) were arrested under Lala police station on Tuesday.

Barricades were placed on the railway tracks to halt movement of the Mizoram-bound goods train as a protest against violent behaviour in Assam’s border areas by Mizoram, said Pabindra Kumar Nath, Hailakandi Superintendent of police.

Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga had earlier notified about the matter to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Union Home Minister’s office, Railway Minister and Assam Chief Minister, saying “futile gestures by miscreants, least needed at times like this; while the central government’s diplomatic approach slowly unfurls peace to both the states.”

Three trucks heavily loaded with necessities were moved to Mizoram from Lailapur on Tuesday morning but in time residents obstructed further movement of the vehicles to the other side of the border on security grounds, informed Cachar Superintendent of Police, Bhanwar Lal Meena.

“The situation along the interstate border is under close watch,” Meena said.

The Superintendent of Police said that no information was reported to him about Mizoram if they have started actions of graded withdrawal of its state police forces from Assam’s territory.
