For her contribution to art, Lalhming Mawii, Mizoram-based artist recently bagged the Women’s Excellence Achievement Award (WEAA).
The award was conferred to Lalhming through a virtual ceremony because of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
“This award is our heartfelt appreciation for your dedication and sincere hard work towards art”, a statement from the WEAA stated.
Lalhming is the founder and chairman of the Art Novelty Institute of Art & Craft in Chaltlang, Aizawl, and has won an array of awards for her work.
As a self-taught artist, Lalhming’s journey of running the art gallery and being a mother to four children was not always a walk in the park.
She stated that there were times when she felt that she chose the wrong profession.
However, it did not stop her from pursuing her dream, and she has now become an inspiration to many.
She also stated that she encourages all her students to pursue their dreams.
It may be noted that the WEAA honours Indian women from all walks of life for their contribution to art.
It recognises those who have achieved great heights in their respective fields and their outstanding achievements and contributions to society.
