Mizoram: MNF ‘Failed Miserably’ says Congress and ZPM

The Mizo National Front government was accused by the Congress and Mizoram opposition parties Zoram People’s Movement for being failed miserably in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite considerable support from the people, mainly churches and NGOs, ZPM parliamentary party leader Lalduhoma said the state administration had completely failed in regulating Covid-19.

He accused the government of refusing to set up more RT-PCR laboratories despite offers from many sources, and of relying solely on the Rapid Antigen Test for Covid-19 diagnosis.

Moreover, the government has also been accused of suppressing the facts regarding the state’s Covid-19 predicament.

However, health minister R. Lalthangliana refuted the charge, claiming that Mizoram is one of the best-performing states in the country in terms of Covid-19 control.

He claimed that the state outperformed the Northeastern states in the Covid-19 test, with more than 9 lakh samples examined, accounting for 82 percent of the state’s population according to the 2011 census.

Hence, the Mizoram has risen to eighth place in vaccination, with 85 percent of the targeted population vaccinated, the health minister said.

On the contrary, Mizoram on Friday reported 1,055 Covid-19 cases, the fourth consecutive day where it reported over 1,000 cases in a day.
