On July 22, 2021, the Serchhip Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles discovered 20 cases of Dragon beer in Zokhawthar, Champhai district, Mizoram.

A squad of Assam Rifles carried out the operation after receiving information that illicit imported booze was being kept in Champai.

As per the Assam Rifles, the confiscated foreign-origin liquor was estimated to cost Rs. 1,44,000/-. The excise and narcotics department in Champhai later took control of the recovered booze and arrested three people.

The continuous smuggling of drugs, narcotics, and other prohibited substances has been a major source of worry in Mizoram. Its proximity to the India-Myanmar border had made it a hub for the transit of illicit drugs.

Despite the fact that countless seizures and recoveries of drugs and psychotropic substances have resulted in several arrests, the threat has yet to leave its borders.
