African Swine Fever (ASF), has killed about 1,700 pigs in over a month around parts of Mizoram, which is yet to be contained.
Deaths in the epicentre is lower to deaths in other domains in the past few weeks as informed by state animal husbandry and veterinary department joint director (Livestock Health) Dr Lalhmingthanga.
Lungsen village and the Lunglei’s Electric Veng locality in Lunglei district, Armed Veng and Edenthar neighbourhoods in Aizawl, Keitum village in Serchhip district, and a locality (Vaipi-I) in south Mizoram Siaha town were declared as the “epicentre” of African Swine Fever, by the state government.
Lalhmingthanga informed that more areas are likely to be declared as the epicentre of the pig disease.
At Lungsen village in Lunglei district near the Bangladesh border, the first death was reported, on March 21.
