Mizoram : Village council re-polls in Serchhip district

On complaint over lack of compatibility in the last rural polls on August 27, re-elections will be held to the North Vanlaiphai village council in Serchhip district as decided by Mizoram state election commission this year.

A complaint has been filed before the election commission on Friday by 15 people where 10 candidates were competitor in the last rural polls.

A re-poll will be held in the seven-member North Vanlaiphai village council, said State election commission secretary, Teresy Vanlalhruaii  as the last general elections was stated as void due to discrepancies.

During the election to this village council, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) won four seats, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured two and the Congress one.

Polling for 558 village councils in nine districts and 83 local councils in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area was held between August to September.

The election commission has received petitions from at least

42 village councils and 6 local councils filed petition to the election commission in attempt to make re-poll or re-counting and investigate into the matter in several poll-related issues.
