Mizoram : ZPM opposes to threats by MNF legal board

The Zoram People’s Movement(ZPM) party was angry over the alleged threats imposed by the Mizo National Front(MNF) Legal Board on Monday.

“They were not satisfied in ousting our leader Lalduhoma from the assembly; they further threatened us so we cannot keep silent anymore.”

“There are many parties in India’s whose MLA’s contest independently due to delay in registration procedures of the party but no one tries to stir trouble for such people. There have been forty two MLA’s in Mizoram who were elected as MLA under the same criteria – 24 MNF MLA in 1987, in1989 there were 2 MNF ‘D’ MLA, 7MJD MLA in 1993, 2 MCP MLA in2005 and now 7 ZPM MLA in 2018”, they said.

The party officials said, “We did not deem it necessary to guard ourselves seeing the same situation had taken place often times before. Even the Mizoram government is well aware that we are not an ordinary independently, they put our names as ZPM MLA in the Mizoram Official Calendar and the Assembly Speaker had acknowledged us. The action to oust Lalduhoma was taken because they found him to be a nuisance at the assembly session”, they said.

12 ruling MNF legislators filed complaints against Lalduhoma for violating the Anti Defection law by defecting to the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) party. The State Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo disqualified Lalduhoma based on the complaints, on October 27, 2020.

Lalduhoma was the first Lok Sabha member in the country and the first legislator in Mizoram to have been disqualified under the Anti-Defection law.
