NNPGs warns ex-CM TR Zeliang against his statement on NagaTalk

According to the working committee of the seven-member Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), it is against the principle of ‘Agreed Position’ for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which declared an opposition-free government to facilitate an Indo-Naga political solution, to seek the “highest offer” from the government of India on the Naga issue.

In response to UDA chairman TR Zeliang’s recent media statement that he would seek the highest offer from the Centre on the issue, the NNPGs’ working committee said in a statement: “Conducting pre-emptive strikes in the corridors of power in New Delhi seeking, in their own words, the ‘highest offer’ in the impending Indo-Naga political solution goes against the principle of Agreed Position.”

Moreover, on November 17, 2017, the NNPGs and the Centre signed an “Agreed Position.”

Meanwhile, the committee expressed surprise that his media comments are sounding more and more like a “third party negotiator” in the Indo-Naga political talks with each passing day.

In addition, it advised Zeliang to learn the meaning of the word ‘facilitator’, and then asked if he was facilitating or doing ‘something else”.

Further, the neo-Naga People’s Convention (NPC) on Indo-Naga political solution, according to the committee, is dangerous. In 1963, the NPC and the Indian government signed the 16-Point Agreement, which resulted in the formation of Nagaland state.

Moreover, the NNPGs emphasised that the UDA chairperson, who has the BJP as an ally in Nagaland’s opposition-free government, must bear moral responsibility if the October 31, 2019, declaration of the conclusion of political talks by all negotiating entities is put on hold.

They went on to say that the entire Naga people are aware that the political negotiations between the then-Indian government’s interlocutor RN Ravi and the Naga negotiators were officially declared concluded on October 31, 2019.

They claimed that the announcement of the talks’ conclusion marks the end of the facilitator’s role and that it is now up to the Naga negotiators and the Indian government to fulfil the people’s wishes. The Indo-Naga issue, according to the committee, is not antique jewellery that should be auctioned in New Delhi.

The NNPGs asserted that the government of India and the Naga negotiators have reached an agreement and that the government of India and its working committee have better and greater communication channels.

“To hurt the Naga sentiment, ignoring the repeated appeal and demand of apex tribal bodies and civil societies, as history recalls, would invite the most painful humiliation for any leader,” they cautioned.

Recalling that the BJP ran on the slogan “election for solution” in the 2018 Nagaland Assembly elections, the NNPGs warned that if elections are called in the state without an Indo-Naga political agreement, the Naga people will react with unprecedented rage and harsh consequences.
