Sikkim : CM Golay call on Union Home minister; submits memorandum for tribal status

The Union Home minister Amit Shah was called on by Chief Minister P.S. Golay at New Delhi on Thursday.

A memorandum was submitted to the Union Home minister to grant tribal status to the left-communities of Sikkim, informed a CMO release.

The memorandum speaks about social and economic conditions which includes cultural traits of the left-out communities which are similar to all the sections of the society in Sikkim.

The provisions of Article 371F and the Tripartite Agreement between the Chogyal, Government of India and the elected representative drawn during the merger with Union of India was also indicated by the Chief Minister.

For the Limboo and Tamang communities, reservation of Assembly seats was requested to the Union Home Minister by CM Golay. The Limboo and Tamang communities have been recognized as STs by the Union Government in 2003.
