Sikkim : New fleet of traffic police motorcycles

Chief Minister P.S. Tamang (Golay) flagged-off 16 Traffic Police motorcycles today for better traffic management in the State.

‘Mission Jyoti’ mobile app which was designed and created by the Crime branch of Sikkim Police was also launched by the Chief Minister during the programme organized by Sikkim Police at MG Marg.

DIG (Range) Prawin Gurung, in his welcome speech, said that the cooperation of all citizens is important for proper traffic management in the state. Out of the 16 traffic motorcycles, 12 would be for East Sikkim, two for South, and one each for West and North Sikkim, informed Gurung.

SP (CID) Tenzing Loden Lepcha said that the ‘Mission Jyoti’ app is a startup of Sikkim Police to control drug abuse, child sexual abuse and suicide. The app contains the details of these crimes and how it can be prevented. Important numbers like child helpline, suicide helpline and number of police control room are also included in the app which can be accessed by the public through which the complaints can be sent via app to the Police department.

The app contains contact details of all SPs, ASPs, SDPOs and SHOs. From January 12 the app will be available on Google Play and the iOS version will also be available soon, informed Lepcha.

The SP (CID) also explained the ‘Mission SAFAI’ (Sikkim Against Fraud Action Initiative) where cyber frauds were addressed.

A 24×7 traffic helpline number 8900295999 was also disclosed where citizens can call, send texts and pictures via WhatsApp of possible traffic violations.

Urban Development minister Arun Upreti, Transport minister Sanjeet Kharel, Gangtok MLA Y. T. Lepcha, Sikkim Police DGP A. Shanker Rao, Urban Development secretary Sarala Rai, special DGP (Law and Order) Akshay Sachdeva along with HoDs and officers from Police department attended the programme.
