Sikkim : Police-public interaction held at Namchi

With an aim to improve the relationship between the Public and Police in the state, an interaction session was conducted by South District Police with the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Akshay Sachdeva involved.

The importance of community policing and its importance in a society was highlighted by the South SP Thakur Thapa, in his welcome address. Through community policing they seek people’s participation in controlling and preventing crimes in the society, he stated.

Multiple problems faced by students, due to traffic, parking problems faced by drivers, Smart City project, role and responsibility of business community and public at large was elaborately discussed. The stakeholders were given the opportunity to address each other’s problems upfront, with working for solutions with the intervention of the police.

ADGP Sachdeva informed that Sikkim Police is working on women and child welfare and women-related issues in the state. He also requested the public to celebrate a no cracker Diwali, highlighting the pandemic.

Sachdeva also engaged on local issues which included traffic problem at Namchi. The meeting was attended by teachers and students of schools and colleges, Smart City officials, members of drivers’ associations, members from business community and invited guests.

Along with police officials from different police stations and outposts of South District, South ASP J. Jayapandiyan, DSP (Traffic) Jyoti Chettri, Namchi PI Sameer Pradhan and Namchi SDPO Prakash Subba were also present at the meeting.
