Sikkim : Start of Women’s Cricket Tournament

At Mining Ground near Rangpo, Sikkim’s first Women’s Cricket Tournament started today. Organised by the Sikkim Cricket Association, the T20 tournament named Khangchendzonga Shield, is to provide a platform to women cricketers and support more participation of women in cricket.

Team Pandim in the opening match of the qualifying round defeated Team Sinolchu by eight wickets. Pandim limited Sinolchu for 70 runs in 20 overs, and chased down the total with just two wickets taken down.

The second match was played between Team Simvo and Team Kabru. Simvo scored 73 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Pretika Chettri (19 runs) and Lyangrip Lepcha (18) made a great partnership for third wicket. Lyangrip and Simvo managed to score just 14 runs in the last six overs.

Kabru won the match by eight wickets with 7.4 overs left in hand. Player of the match was Purni Maya for scoring 23 runs not-out and for taking two wickets.

By November 13 the qualifying rounds will end with the top two teams heading towards the final game to be played on November 21.
