Tripura: Indigenous People’s Front MLA Charged on Domestic Violence

Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) MLA Dhananjoy Tripura is charged against domestic violence by his wife.

Victim’s lawyer Subrata Roy speaking informed that Yashvi Taneja, Judicial Magistrate First Class-cum-Civil Judge (Jr. Div), recently passed an interim order in which the MLA was asked to make separate living arrangements for his wife and also pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 per month till the case was resolved.

Roy further informed that his client was tortured by her husband and his relatives.

Roy informed that the MLA had earlier established physical relationship with his wife on the pretext of marrying her, but later refused to marry after he became the MLA.

On being charged with rape by her, the MLA has married her in a small function at a local temple.

The rape case was dismissed by the court after the marriage.

A case of domestic violence was registered against the MLA after the marriage, in which his wife complained that he used to physically assault her at his MLA quarter residence.

“A case under section 498 (A) and (307) of the IPC was also registered against Dhananjoy Tripura, however, police did not initiate any investigation or arrested him,” Roy added.

“She was taken to Gandachera from Agartala, where she assaulted again,” Roy added.

“However, her father brought her back to Agartala a couple of months ago and they re-registered a case against Dhananjoy at the court,” Roy further said.

It may be mentioned here that the IPFT has not spoken anything about the case or about the young MLA.
