Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to visit Tripura tomorrow

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, will arrive in Tripura on Friday for a two-day visit. During her visit to Tripura, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman plans to launch a plethora of projects. In Tripura, Sitharaman is expected to launch 11 projects worth more than Rs 150 crore.

The union finance minister will also meet with Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and other cabinet ministers to examine the state’s political situation. Sitharaman will visit the Tripurasundari shrine in Udaipur, 55 kilometres from Agartala, on Saturday before returning to New Delhi.

Many saw Sitharaman’s visit as a BJP retaliation for the state’s previous visits by key TMC leaders. Top TMC (Trinamool Congress) officials such as Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O’Brien have been visiting Tripura on a regular basis to lay the ground for the party ahead of the State’s Assembly elections.
