Pratima Bhoumik, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, inaugurated the first Public Data Office in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister’s Wireless Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) scheme was used to create the office.

She virtually launched the scheme from the BSNL building in Tripura.

“The Prime Minister’s dream is to provide internet service to rural workers, farmers and students. In the current Corona situation, people are realizing the importance of internet connectivity. The Prime Minister’s dream is to provide over 1 crore internet connections across the country by December 2022. Farmers, students and businessmen in rural areas will get this facility,” Bhowmik said.

She thanked BSNL officials for bringing this service to the state, saying it fulfilled the Prime Minister’s dream. She added that many rural areas in the state lacked access to WiFi.

She advocated for the implementation of this service in all rural areas.
