Five members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) of the Parimal Debbarma (PD) faction surrendered to the Assam Rifles’ Agartala battalion on Friday, while another two members of the same banned militant outfit surrendered to the Tripura Police’s Special Branch on Thursday.
The Agartala Battalion of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of 21-Sector Assam Rifles Headquarters and Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), along with the Assam Rifles Field Intelligence Team, persuaded five NLFT (PD) cadres at Anand Bazaar Police Station in the Dhalai district of Tripura to surrender, according to a press release issued by the Headquarters of the Inspector General Assam.
On Friday, Agartala Battalion and Field Intelligence Team launched a joint operation based on specific inputs from Field Intelligence Team and Wireless Experimental Unit, which resulted in the surrender of five NLFT (PD) cadres.
Rambadal Tripura (40) alias Rabi, Swapan Tripura (16) alias Bubar, Jalaksha Tripura (38) alias Jalua, Juba Ranjan Tripura (35) alias Jayanta, and Khajendra Reang (29) alias Kuboi are among the cadres who have surrendered.
Cadres revealed that they joined the NLFT (PD) organisation in Bangladesh NLFT camp with other extremist cadres during preliminary interrogation. From their field experience, the cadres learned that their cause for Tripura’s independence has lost its relevance.
The NLFT (PD) group, on the other hand, is currently experiencing a serious financial and organisational crisis. I’m frustrated by the current state of the NLFT organisation and the constant pressure from security forces.
On Friday, the Agartala Battalion of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) congratulated five NLFT (PD) cadres who surrendered at Anand Bazaar Police Station in Tripura. Furthermore, on Thursday, two NLFT (PD) cadres, Ezamoni Reang (35) and Hakimrai Reang (36) surrendered to the Tripura Police Special Branch.
