Tripura : CPI(M) leaders blocks Agartala police headquarters

Due to attacks made on party leaders, supporters, workers and party offices across Tripura, the police headquarters at Agartala was gheraoed by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), in short CPI(M) leaders on Tuesday.

The CPIM leaders and workers staged a protest in front of the police headquarters that continued for about one and a half hour.

Regarding the attack on opposition parties in the state, the Governor was met by CPI(M) MLAs and party workers led by opposition leader and former Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar, who sought his intervention into the matter.

On January 17th, CPI(M) MP Jhanra Das Baidya and Congress state president Pijush Biswas was attacked by few troublemakers.

Three CPI(M) offices were looted and damaged and several party workers were thrashed on that day.

CPI(M) state secretary Gautam Das said, “Miscreant back by the ruling BJP is behind the attacks on leaders of different political parties in the state.”

“The police are reluctant to take action against those carrying out such attacks,” he said.

It was also claimed that Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb fueled the troublemakers to attack the opposition party members.

He said, “We have come to the police headquarter today to ask the police how long this terror will continue.”

Senior police officials later assured the CPI(M) leaders that necessary actions will be taken.

The Vice President and Ex-Officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, M.Venkaia Naidu was informed in written, about the organized attack and stone-pelting on Jharna Das Baidya’s residence in Badharghat.
