Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman, on Thursday announced the merger of the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) with the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) and termed it as post poll unification.
This development was announced at a joint press conference by the INPT chief Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl and TIPRA chairman Deb Barman at the Ujjayanta Palace.
Deb Barman stated that, ‘We have been talking for the last few months, and our call was for unity. Many times political parties make alliances only before elections, but once the polls are over, nobody talks about community or unity’.
It is an important step because six months back, there were 7 to 8 regional parties, but now only one or two parties are left. This is historic as the oldest political party in Tripura has decided for the interest of our combined goal of Greater Tipraland to come together and work as a single entity, later Deb Barman added.
Speaking further, he said that for the last 70 years, they were divided among the community and ideology. But if people do not keep the ego, then everything is possible.
Meanwhile, INPT Chief BK Hrangkhawl said that, ‘Some may not be very happy, but most are happy with the decision. We would have been happier if some old friends had been with us today. We are happy that under the leadership of our chairman, we won the ADC election’.
