Tripura : Order of magisterial inquiry into shooting incident

Against Bru refugee resettlement, one person was killed along with 23 others injured in a conflict between Security personnel and protestors in Chamtila in Panisagar sub-division of North Tripura. Hench a magisterial inquiry has been ordered by the Tripura Government against the incident.
According to the order, Nagesh Kumar B, the North Tripura district magistrate has been directed to look into the matter.
Nagesh Kumar asserted that the demised has been identified as 47-year-old Srikanth Das.
Among the injured 7 were civilians and the 15 others includes policemen, fire service personnel and government officials.
The injured were taken first to the Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. 8 people were sent to Dharmanagar District Hospital from there.
Three government vehicles were vandalized by the protestors, according to the District Magistrate.
A compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs will be provided to the family members of Late Srikanth Das.
Section 144 CrPC has been imposed in Panisagar and Dharmanagar subdivisions to handle the situation.
The district magistrate stated, “More security personnel have been deployed to handle the situation and the army has also been called”.
A National Highway blockade was called on Saturday by the Joint Movement Committee opposing re-settlement of Bru refugees.
Police and TSR were deployed since the morning to stop the blockade.
The district magistrate said, “In the morning, people were coming from Unakoti district in two vehicles to join the protesters. Police and TSR (Tripura State Rifles) tried to stop them. But the protesters were outnumbered. Security forces failed to stop them”.
“The protesters attacked the SDPO and others in Panisagar. In response, the security guards of the SDPO and other TSR jawans opened fire in which one person died,” he said.
