Tripura : Teachers protest with corpse in front of Education Department

With the dead body of their colleagues, a protest was held by the sacked teachers of Tripura in front of the Education Department (Shikha Bhavan) in Agartala, on Monday.

After arguing with the security and government officials, the teachers headed towards Battala crematorium.

The identified deceased teacher Ajit Sutradhar, experienced a brain stroke on Monday morning, and was taken to the hospital, where he took his last breath.

Lt. Ajit Sutradhar belonged from Nayanamura of Chandrapur area. He was a graduate teacher and served ten years in the profession.

Ajit Sutradhar was worried like other sacked teachers when he lost his job.

About 10,323 teachers in Tripura have been agitating since December 7 and completed the 50th day of their mass protest on Monday.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb led BJP government assured them jobs on the assumption of power before the state polls in 2018.

Leader of the sacked teachers, Dalia Das, said, “The government is still silent. Various organizations have been repeatedly appealing to the government to address the issue of teachers from a humanitarian point of view. But no government representative has spoken to us yet”.

Previously, the sacked teachers were asked to sit for competitive exams to secure their jobs by State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, to which Das replied that, “They can’t sit in the exam again”.

Earlier, January 25 was selected for the state government to come to negotiations.

With Sutradhar’s demise, the death toll has went up to 84 till now.
