Tripura’s banned NLFT active again in state

The banned extremist group National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), has restarted their actions in some rural areas of the state again.

According to police sources, NLFT cadres gave threats in areas of Dhalai district.

As elections are approaching fast for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the NLFT had increased their activities in the bordering areas of the state.

Active in Gandachara sub-division, a group of NLFT has served extortion notices to seven businessmen in that area. They informed about it in the Raishyabari Police Station.

A demand of Rs 1 Lakh was made from each, which they want to be delivered through the barbed-wire border of the India-Bangladesh in Raishyabari.

The phone number used for contacting the businessmen was identified as Somen Tripura known as Hero Tripura (26), a resident of Deshrai Para. Soumen is operating along with four other members of the group.

Along with his wife and child Somen, fled to Bangladesh before they could arrest him. However, a few cadres of NLFT were apprehended earlier in July this year from Khowai and Dhalai districts.

Sources said, they are  in Shambhurai Para in Khagrachhari district in Bangladesh.
