Tripura tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy announced that Tripura Government has decided to reopen all the tourist spots in the state from October 1. The tourist spots in the state have remained closed since March in view of COVID19 pandemic and consequent lockdowns. The state economy to some extent depends on tourism. So, the state government has decided to reopen all the tourist spots from the first day of October.
The people who are dependent on tourism have faced a crisis situation due to the COVID19 pandemic. To boost the tourism industry, the state government has taken some decisions. Aiming at promoting tourism in a big way, the tourism department is planning to construct a helipad near Dumbur Lake in Karbook sub-division.
“The tourists, who want to enjoy the beauty of Dumbur Lake, will be able to avail helicopter service. This will be a good bonanza for the tourists,” said tourism minister Roy. Dumbur Lake in Chabimura area is one of the main tourist destinations in Tripura. Chabimura or Chobimura is famous for its panels of rock carving on a steep mountain wall on the bank of river Gomti in Tripura. There are huge carved images of Shiva, Vishnu, Kartika, Mahisasura Mardini Durga and other Gods and Goddesses. It is located on the bank of river Gomati in Amarpur sub-division under Gomati district, nearly 100 km away from Agartala. There is a huge water body at Chabimura, known as Dumbur Lake. The tourism department has introduced water scooter, floating jetty and speed boat at Dumbur Lake of Chabimura.
“The government wants to convert tourism sector into an industry to create job for the local people,” the tourism minister said adding that even as the state is small but its beauty is enormous.
“Unakoti, Pilak, Neermahal, Chhabimura and Dumubur Lake could be a game-changer for the state’s tourism,” he said.
“Today, we have inaugurated floating jetty at Mandirghat and one water scooter. Tourism facilities will be expanded in Dumbur and Narikel Kunja,” he promised.
The minister appealed to the local youths to get involved in the tourism sector because it promises job opportunities rapidly.
“Arrival of more tourists means more business for the local people. The department will help train the youths,” he added.
