2020 kept us locked up inside our homes owing to the spread of coronavirus, there isn’t any dearth of entertainment. Cinephiles have various options, thanks to OTT platforms. And this Diwali week promises a whole lot of fun. Here’s a list of films and shows which are hitting streaming services and theatres this week
Laxmii – November 9 (Disney Plus Hotstar)
Akshay Kumar stars in this horror-comedy, which is a remake of Tamil hit Kanchana. Laxmii also features Kiara Advani, Ashwini Kalsekar, Sharad Kelkar, Manu Rishi, and Ayesha Raza. The Raghava Lawrence directorial revolves around an unsuspecting man whose body gets taken over by a spirit. It is produced by Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films, Fox Star Studios and Tusshar Kapoor. Aashram Chapter 2 – November 11 (MX Player)
Bobby Deol is set to return as Kashipur Waale Baba Nirala in the next part of the MX Original Series Aashram. In chapter 2, we will see Baba Nirala’s greed for power, money and lust grow manifold. This time, his aim is to acquire political clout, indulge in illegal activities and exploit women, as he loses the trust of his partner-in-crime Bhopa (Chandan Roy Sanyal). Ludo – November 12 (Netflix)
Anurag Basu directed anthology stars Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Aditya Roy Kapur, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Rohit Saraf and Asha Negi. The film follows the journey of four different people who cross paths by accident, changing their lives forever. While Rajkummar Rao plays a conman, Abhishek Bachchan plays a naive kidnapper. Soorarai Pottru – November 12 (Amazon Prime Video)
Directed by Sudha Kongara, Soorarai Pottru stars Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Babu and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles. It is based on Captain G R Gopinath’s autobiography Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey. In the book, Gopinath wrote about the struggles that he faced in his pursuit to launch a low-cost airline service. Suriya has also bankrolled the film.
Mum Bhai – November 12 (ALT Balaji and ZEE 5)
Mum Bhai is a crime drama starring Angad Bedi and Sikander Kher in the lead roles. Set in Mumbai’s underbelly between the late 90s and early 2000, it chronicles the friendship between encounter specialist Bhaskar Shetty and an underworld don. Mum Bhai also stars Sandeepa Dhar.
Modi: CM TO PM – November 12 (Eros Now)
Modi: Journey Of A Common Man is returning with its second season. Directed by Umesh Shukla and Ashish Wagh, Modi: CM TO PM shows different stages of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political life. While the first season chronicled Modi’s growing up years to becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the new season will follow the challenges he faced while serving three consecutive terms as Gujarat CM to ultimately becoming the Prime Minister of India.
Chhalaang – November 13 (Amazon Prime Video)
Director Hansal Mehta is collaborating with Rajkummar Rao again for this family entertainer, which also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Satish Kaushik, Ila Arun and Saurabh Shukla. The film revolves around a school PT teacher Montu who falls in love with his colleague Neelu. But soon the villain of his love story Mr Singh makes life difficult for him.
SIR – November 13 (Theatre)
Tillotama Shome and Vivek Gomber-starrer Sir is been directed by Rohena Gera. Set in Mumbai, the film explores the relationship between the scion of a real-estate family and a house help. The two share a bond that is beyond their professional relationship, but society won’t let them act on their desires and thus, begins the conflict.
The Crown Season 4 – November 15 (Netflix)
Taking the story of Queen Elizabeth II forward, the new season will explore the tension, and hostility between Queen and Conservative Party politician Margaret Thatcher – two of the most remarkable women of the 20th century. We’ll also see Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, the free-spirited new entrant to the royal family. While Olivia Colman plays the Queen, Gillian Anderson will be portraying Margaret Thatcher.
Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari – November 15 (Theatre)
Directed by Abhishek Sharma, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari stars Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh. It revolves around a Mumbai boy Suraj whose bride hunt is thwarted by a detective named Mangal, who exposes the “ills” of prospective grooms to the girls and their families. When Suraj gets to know about Mangal’s interference, he decides to use his sister to get even with him.
