After the endless debates on religious intolerance in India, one thing is for sure: Religious discord and intolerance still divide our nation and it isn’t something to be proud of. From meat bans to killing cows, Hindu-Muslim religious conflicts still continue to exist.
To express these sentiments and fear, actor and comedian Javed Jaffrey spoke about at a lecture in Bangalore. Jaffrey was invited as a guest at Hussain Day in Bengaluru. Jaffrey’s speech had a poem that spoke about one larger point: How and why the religious divide is the worst thing to have happened to India.
Here’s an excerpt from his speech:
Nafraton ka asar dekho,
Janwaron ka batwara ho gaya,
Gaay Hindu ho gayee aur bakra Musalman ho gaya.
Ye ped ye patte ye shakhein bhi pareshan ho jayein,
Agar parinde bhi Hindu aur Musalman ho jayein.
Sukhe mewe bhi ye dekh kar pareshan ho gaye,
Aur Hinduon ke hisse bas gajar aur tamatar hi aayenge.
Ab samajh nahin aa raha is tarbooz kiske hisse jayega,
Yeh toh bechara upar se Musalman aur andar se Hindu reh jayega!
