The off destination which is still a mystery being unresolved, the Mawphlang Sacred Grove in Shillong in the state of Meghalaya. 90% of the forest areas are owned by the people and not by the government so the entire inhabitants weigh these forests as a divine station and they consider that the forest divinities would be outraged if trees are cut and offshoots, flowers, fruits, etc. are plucked. These copses are vibrant areas for plants, birds, and mammals and if anything is taken away from the forest the community will have to face the rage of the deity.

The very first time you enter the forest after listening to the stories, it’s more like you are entering some kind of a holy place, the whole grove is spread across 76 hectares of land and is shielded by the deity called Labasa. Some of the trees are almost 1000 years old. 

Many stories have been captivated in the forest from sacrificing animals’ lives to burning bones of locals The most interesting fact that nothing can be taken from this forest and if one does that it can be led to sickness or even death. The holly grove is not just a religious place but it where the locals celebrate nature and work towards conserving it.
