COVID-19 Third-wave may impact children, says Experts

A team of specialists from the Home Ministry has informed the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that the third wave of COVID-19 is on the way, with a peak in October. The COVID-19 third wave, according to an expert group formed by the Home Ministry under the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), would affect youngsters who are in danger in the same way as seniors are.

While noting that pediatric institutions across the country are insufficient to deal with such scenarios, the expert group has recommended increased medical infrastructure and healthcare facilities.

The group cautioned the PMO in its report about a lack of medical facilities, physicians, and personnel, as well as a scarcity of equipment like ventilators and ambulances to deal with such circumstances. According to media sources, existing medical facilities are “nowhere near what may be necessary for the event a high number of youngsters become sick.”
