Mangaluru Nipah suspicions; Sample sent to Pune for testing

A person in Mangaluru was suspected of carrying the Nipah virus in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district on Monday, a week after a 12-year-old boy died from the virus in Kerala’s Kozhikode district.

The person who works as a lab technician in Mangaluru, according to health commissioner K V Trilok Chandra, had not shown any severe symptoms until the sample was sent for testing at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.

“We must remain vigilant, but there is no need to panic. So far, no severe symptoms have been reported,” he said.
