More than 50 start-ups are working in the space sector, according to Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh, and about ten of them have individual funding of more than 50 crore.

He added that they were also working on software solutions for debris management in space while speaking at a meeting of science ministries.

Since the space sector was opened to private players, Singh said, innovative start-ups have flocked to explore the untapped potential.

Over the last four months, 11 more states, including Sikkim, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh, have been working on their science and technology policies, according to the minister. He went on to say that states and union territories have been asked to identify areas where technological interventions could help solve problems and make life easier.

Singh stated that the latest snow clearing technology will be provided to Jammu and Kashmir, while Puducherry and Tamil Nadu will receive assistance in the restoration and renovation of beaches. He added that a template was being prepared with the help of the Capacity Building Commission to take up theme-wise deliberations between the Centre and the states on specific needs from place to place.

The first round of meetings between state science ministries and the federal government has concluded, according to Singh. He went on to say that the states’ requests for scientific solutions were being compiled. Singh stated that while different states have different capacities, they are all willing to collaborate with the federal government in areas such as R&D and innovation.
