Parliamentary panel to assess soldiers Conditions in Leh

Amid India-China border tension, a parliamentary panel is set to visit Leh in Ladakh for a first-hand assessment related to the working conditions of the soldiers. The panel would assess high altitude clothing, equipment, housing and rations of the Soldiers.

The development came after a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) showed an acute shortage of high-altitude clothing and equipment, including snow goggles, for troops stationed in high-altitude areas in Ladakh. The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), will be in Leh to understand the working condition of soldiers. The committee will be in Leh on October 28 and 29. It will hold informal discussions with Defence Ministry officials and the Northern Command of Army during its visit.

The committee is currently examining the report by CAG that had pointed out deficiencies in high-altitude clothing and equipment and the need to equip soldiers with proper gear.
