PM Modi Hails 5 Years of One Rank One Pension Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday while greeting the Soldiers on the fifth anniversary of his Government’s decision to Implement One Rank One Pension Scheme (OROP) said the scheme for the armed forces veterans was indeed a historic step to ensure the well-being of the soldiers.

In a tweet, PM Modi said, five Years of OROP is a momentous occasion. He said, India waited for OROP for decades. The Prime Minister saluted the veterans for their remarkable service. 

One Rank One Pension Scheme aims at ensuring uniform pensions for veterans retiring in the same rank with the same length of service irrespective of when they retire. According to the government, over Rs 10,795.4 crore were distributed among 20.60 lakh ex-servicemen and their family pensioners as arrears with a yearly recurring expenditure of about Rs 7,123.38 crore.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the occasion said, the Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delivered on the promise made to the ex-servicemen on ‘One Rank One Pension’ scheme. The welfare of Armed Forces and their families is our unwavering commitment and topmost priority.
