Mamata Banerjee upset over not given opportunity to speak at PM’s meeting

Upset

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, is upset that she was not given the opportunity to speak at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual meeting on Wednesday. The development has anguished the entire state administration, according to news agency PTI.

PM Modi attended the second meeting of the national committee on the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ which included other chief ministers. Banerjee expressed her disappointment at not being given the opportunity to speak at the virtual meeting.

Banerjee’s name was not on the list of speakers, according to a state secretariat official quoted by Hindustan Times’ sister publication Livehindustan.

Banerjee has previously claimed that the Centre has denied her the opportunity to speak. A similar incident occurred in May of this year, when the Prime Minister met with chief ministers to discuss the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak and the government’s preparedness.

Banerjee had expressed her displeasure with being “insulted” at the time. Instead of sending an official, the chief minister came to the meeting herself to lobby the central government for Covid-19 vaccines.

According to a government statement, PM Modi said that the pandemic has taught new lessons and shattered existing structures, which will lead to the emergence of a “new world order” in the post-Covid era.

He said now is a good time to look forward to 2047, when the country will celebrate 100 years of independence, because the current generation will be in charge and the nation’s fate will be in their hands.

“As a result, it’s critical to decide what we need to instil in them now so that they can make significant contributions to the country in the future,” the Prime Minister said. “We have always insisted on and fought for our rights,” he continued, “but there is a greater greatness in carrying out one’s responsibilities.” Only when people perform their duties religiously are they able to automatically ensure the rights of others, according to PM Modi.

At the meeting, culture ministry secretary Govind Mohan gave an overview of the activities of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which is being held to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of independence.
