Large cache of guns found at Assam-Nagaland border, 5 arrested

Along the Assam-Nagaland border in Karbi Anglong district, police seized a large cache of rifles and ammunition and arrested five persons.

According to reports, a joint squad of Karbi Anglong police and 5 Assam Rifles based in Dimapur apprehended a Gypsy car in the Naharjan district bordering Nagaland on Friday and recovered three AK-56 rifles with 75 rounds of ammunition and a handgun with eight rounds of ammunition. All five occupants of the car have been apprehended by police.

According to a police officer, the suspects have been identified as Akhui Kashung, Ngmpoi, Wungreingam, Ashang Chithung, and Lanchungrei Kamei. A case has been filed under section 120(B) IPC R/W Sec. 25(1-A) of the Arms Act, and a thorough investigation is underway.

A.22 rifle, three pistols, and two hand grenades were confiscated by the 5 Assam Rifle in August in the Gharialdubi region under the Bokajan Police Station.
