Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lays foundation Hydroelectric Project in Assam

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, lay the foundation for the projected Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Project at Longku in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Thursday. During the foundation-laying ceremony, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present.

The Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Project in Assam’s Dima Hasao district is expected to cost 231 million US dollars (Rs 2200 crores) and will be funded by an ADB loan.

By 2025, the Kopili river run-of-the-river project is planned to enhance energy supply by 469 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

“Centre will bear 77% (Rs 1700 crore) of the cost of the project and rest 23% (Rs 500 crore) will be borne by Assam government,” Nirmala Sitharaman said.
